Physical Distancing Measures

Bigelow Flooring will always ensure the physical distancing of 2 meters (6 feet) for both our clients and employees at our business. Should you have any questions, recommendations or concerns, please contact Rui Cardoso at 519-821-0256 x 122 or

The following physical distancing measures are in place at this location:

  • Clients and employees will not congregate in groups.
  • Clients and employees will avoid common greetings, such as handshakes.
  • ALL employees shall monitor adherence to physical distancing requirements on premises.
  • Employees will offset lunch and breaks to not congregate in the same spaces
  • Employees are encouraged to take their breaks outside or at their workstations
  • Limit of 1 Employee at a time in food prep area
  • Limit of 1 Employee at a time in any area of less than 72 square feet
  • Customers may partake in their activity while maintaining physical distancing requirements.
  • Sales representatives will remind clients of physical distancing requirements.
  • The workplace has been altered to ensure physical distancing requirements (display racks provide lateral distance between customers, customers are to respect mesial distance of other customers, provided are visual cues on floor for distancing).
  • Situations where interfacing between employees and customers is common have been given special considerations for mutual protection (plexiglass screen at cash, have customer service representative give a reminder to customers to keep their distance).

The following measures are to be taken by Customers, Employees, and Installers on job sites and customer’s homes, during work in a customer’s home, it is considered a job site:

  • Clients and workers will not congregate in groups.
  • Clients and workers will avoid common greetings, such as handshakes
  • Clients and workers will meet each other at entry point wearing masks
  • Clients will self assess for covid symptoms using the form located at
  • Clients shall advise Bigelow Flooring of any positive screening and the work will be postponed
  • Clients and workers shall maintain 2 meters (6 foot) distancing in home
  • Once the worker(s) have identified the area to install flooring, the customer shall leave the work area
  • Throughout work, there are certain procedures and tasks which will require the worker to remove his/her mask. Therefore, it is imperative that the customer be on another floor, or physically as far away from the work area as possible.
  • Customers will be aware that workers have completed COVID assessments daily


Cleaning and Disinfection Procedures

Bigelow Flooring has developed cleaning protocols to ensure that all common areas are cleaned and disinfected twice daily, or more often as required (i.e. if soiled). The following cleaning and disinfection procedures are in place at this location:

Detail in this space the cleaning and disinfection procedures in place at this location such as:

  • Bigelow Flooring will ensure that all the necessary supplies are available as appropriate such as hot/cold potable running water, liquid soap, paper towels and garbage bins, or minimum 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer for handwashing; toilet paper, cleaning and disinfecting supplies, and personal protection equipment (non-medical masks and disposable gloves).
  • Bigelow Flooring will ensure that employees are trained on how to clean and disinfect surfaces and use personal protection equipment as needed.
  • Employees cleaning the workspaces should read and follow manufacturer’s instructions for the safe use of cleaning and disinfection products. These will be used according to the label directions and instruction from company’s cleaning authority contact. Cleaning and disinfecting supplies that clean and disinfect all at once may require the use of disposable gloves. These should be disposed of appropriately after cleaning. More information on cleaning and disinfection can be found on the Government of Canada website.
  • Employees and clients should not be present in the area during the cleaning of the workplace to allow enough contact time for disinfectants to kill germs based on the product being used.
  • Items such as countertops, chairs (including below the front of the seat), rental/shared tools and equipment, phones, whiteboard markers, cashier equipment, light switches, public washrooms, doorknobs, handrails, elevator buttons, cabinet handles, faucet handles, tables, vending machines, and furniture need to be disinfected more frequently throughout the day.

Employee Wellness and Hygiene

Bigelow Flooring will ensure that all employees are informed of the best practices to encourage proper hygiene etiquette. Additionally, the necessary products and equipment will be available to you in the workplace to follow these best practices. Health and Safety is a responsibility that belongs to everyone is the workplace and we encourage you to review Ministry of Health’s Guidance Document for Essential Workplaces. We have also reviewed our sick leave policy & health and safety policy to ensure employees are not coming to work unless they are healthy. The following employee wellness and hygiene procedures are in place at this location:

While at work to help stop the spread of germs:

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw the used tissue in the trash.
  • If you do not have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow, not in your hands and then wash your hands immediately afterwards.
  • When coming into work and leaving work, please wash/sanitize your hands for 20 seconds.
  • You are encouraged to clean your cell phone upon arriving at work with a sanitizer wipe
  • Respect the 2-meter physical distancing measures with all your colleagues and clients.
  • Handshakes, hugs and direct contact are not permitted.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Indicate your arrival and departure times on your electronic calendar that is shared with the operations manager.
  • We encourage you to remind your colleagues and clients of the wellness and hygiene measures put into place.

Should you feel unwell (i.e. coughing, sneezing, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose, etc.), think you have come into contact with someone with COVID-19, or have someone from your household return from travelling abroad:

  • Please notify your H&S representative Rui Cardoso,
  • We ask that you do not present yourself at work with COVID-19 symptoms and contact Telehealth Ontario to receive medical advice, should it be possible, please obtain a COVID test and present the result once obtained.
  • In Ontario, employers may not ask for sick notes for COVID-related illnesses. Bigelow Flooring allows sick days to be taken in good faith by all employees without reprimand. Please be aware that you will be required to provide a fit-to-work assessment before coming back into the workplace.

Screening of employees

Bigelow Flooring requires employee screening everyday. You may be required to complete screening upon entry and exit of the building if you have been in contact with person(s) whose covid status and screening are not known to you. This screening will be to check if the employee/customer displays/has any symptoms.

  • The protocol includes:
    • Employees are to use the assessment tool daily that is emailed to you, this same tool can be used additional times throughout the day on an as needed basis, simply call up the email in your inbox.
    • Requiring the employee to go home to self-monitor should they show reasonable signs of symptoms.
    • Customers are to review the screening checklist provided at the sanitization station, if customer has any symptoms or is not wearing a face mask, they are to immediately leave the premises and we can offer e-commerce, home delivery of samples, telephone payment, and or answer questions by phone and email.
    • Any screening should have reasonable cause before acting on consequences.
    • Customers are to review assessment for home installation prior to arrival
  • Those who are either symptomatic and/or have been advised by Public Health to self-isolate, to remain home and not enter the premises.
      • Ensure protection of all personal information in such a manner as to protect the personal privacy of employees.
      • Contact the local public health authority and business owner/HR contact should there be a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19.

ALL employees are responsible for pre-screening at the beginning of their shifts, and prior to entering the premises.
